Multi-talented media personality Deborah Vanessa, popularly known as Sister Derby, has refuted claims made by Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam George, accusing her of spreading falsehoods about LGBTQ+ during a school visit.
According to Sister Derby, the alleged video presented by Sam George misrepresents her engagement with children, clarifying that she was there to discuss career options on Career Day, not to promote LGBTQ+ ideologies.Taking to Twitter, she expressed her disappointment and questioned Sam George's motives, asking, "Who paid you?"
The controversy arose following the passage of the Proper Human Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, by parliament.A video surfaced on social media showing Deborah Vanessa's visit to Little Angels School.
Sam George, a key sponsor of the bill, claimed in an interview on StarrFM that Sister Derby promoted LGBTQ+ activities during her visit to the North Legon Little Angels school in Accra. He alleged that she told students it was acceptable to have romantic feelings for the same sex.“I am absolutely not interested in the privacy of your bedroom. It is because these same people have taken what is their private perversion and are bringing it to my children’s classroom. North Legon Little Angles, I am mentioning the name of the school, they take somebody who calls herself an influencer and so called social media celebrity. Take her to a school to sit with children aged 8 to 11 and tell them that it is okay for them as boys to love boys and girls to love girls. Here in Ghana, North Legon Little Angels.”Sister Derby defended herself, emphasizing that she was promoting tolerance on Career Day, answering questions posed by children in the presence of school authorities, and on her Instagram Live. She condemned the allegations, asserting, “Who paid you? Teaching tolerance on Career Day, answering questions the children asked me in the presence of 8 school authorities and on my IG LIVE is now a crime? Shame on you,” Sister Derby stated.
