The University of Ghana (UG) has issued a formal announcement, indicating that starting from the 2023/2024 academic year, students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) falling below 1.00 in the Colleges of Basic and Applied Sciences, Education, and Humanities will face withdrawal from the institution.
This decision aligns with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which specifies that undergraduate students who fail to attain the prescribed minimum CGPA required for progression to the next level of their studies will be compelled to withdraw from the university.
In a notification from the Academic Affairs Directorate at UG, students who are currently in their second year (level 200) and third year (level 300) and who have already received their examination results for all courses registered during the 2022/2023 academic year, and whose CGPA falls below the approved minimum for their respective college, should anticipate receiving official withdrawal letters from the University via their official UG email addresses in the near future.
Additionally, for those students who have already paid their tuition fees for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year, the university will process refunds upon request.
The notice also underscored the University of Ghana's recognition of the gravity of this announcement and encouraged any student with inquiries or in need of assistance to reach out to the appropriate College Academic Affairs Office.
In addition, it was mentioned that a separate notice specifically addressing the College of Health Sciences would be released in the future.
This announcement has taken many students by surprise, especially those who are facing academic challenges and struggling to meet the newly imposed CGPA requirements.
