2 mins readA 35-year-old man, Mukila Ziblim, has died after being struck by a stray bullet during a violent attack on the West Gonja Municipal Electoral Commission collation centre in Damongo on December 8.The incident occurred when a group of youth believed to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attacked the collation centre, vandalizing electoral materials such as laptops, pink sheets, ballot boxes, and papers.

The attackers also set the Commission's storeroom ablaze, destroying valuable documents.In response, police reportedly opened live fire on the crowd, resulting in Mukila Ziblim being hit by a bullet in the left side of his chest. Hospital authorities confirmed that he passed away less than an hour after being admitted. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue.<img src="

alt="" class="wp-image-732263" style="width:1034px;height:auto"/>Reacting to the violence, Chairman of the Savannah Regional Peace Council, Rev. Fr. Lazarus Annyereh, expressed disappointment in both the police and the NDC leadership. He questioned whether the party had upheld its commitment to peace.

"So, have they [NDC executives] kept their part of the contract of peace? And I don't want to blame only the police, I want to blame the leadership of NDC,” Rev. Fr. Lazarus stated.He lamented that the incident could tarnish Damongo's image and reinforce perceptions of the region as a violent area.

"I'm devastated about his death because it’s an election meant to give us good leadership, and now if the election will lead to the murder of citizens, then of course it impedes our development," he added.The tragic incident marks the third casualty in the elections, following two deaths in gun-related attacks in the Northern and Central Regions.
