2 mins readPresident John Mahama has urged Parliament to quickly proceed with the vetting process of newly nominated deputy ministers.

He stressed that this will enable the ministers to assist their substantive counterparts in executing government duties effectively.

On February 7, 2025, during a ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama shared that four more deputy ministers will soon be nominated to complete his promised team of 60 ministers.

“So far, we have sworn in 42 ministers. I have nominated 13 more who are yet to be vetted, and I urge Parliament to fast-track their vetting so they can join their ministers in the task ahead. I will nominate four additional ministers soon to reach the 60 mark,” he stated.

The 17 ministers sworn in included those holding substantive, state, and regional positions. Notable among them were Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh as Health Minister, Sam George as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Kofi Adams as Sports Minister, and Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed as Minister for Environment and Science. Samuel Okudzeto Abklakwa was appointed Foreign Affairs Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe as Transport Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu as Minister of State-in-charge of Government Communications, Rashid Pelpuo as Labour Minister, and Issifu Seidu as Minister of State-in-charge of Climate Change and Sustainability.

Charity Gardiner for Ahafo, Salifu Bi-Awuribe for Savannah, Joseph Nelson for Western, Wilbert Petty Brentum for Western-North, Joseph Addae Akwaboa for Bono, and Charles Lwanga Puozuing for Upper West were the newly sworn-in Regional Ministers.

During the ceremony, President Mahama emphasized the importance of modesty in government expenditure.

“The hallmark of this government will be modesty. I expect the best from all of you. You must use your resources wisely to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people,” he stressed.

Additionally, President Mahama issued a directive for strict controls on government appointees' travel. “I have asked the Chief of Staff to ban all non-essential travels. Any travel must be cleared with the Chief of Staff. Such trips, if approved, must be done in modesty, no first class,” he declared.
