2 mins readSpecial voting is taking place today in the Western and Eastern Regions after it was adjourned from December 2.The Electoral Commission (EC) made the change when it discovered that ballot papers had leaked in both regions. This quick decision was taken to ensure the election remains fair and credible.To address the issue, the EC recalled and reprinted the leaked ballot papers.

The Commission's Chairperson, Jean Mensa, shared this update during an emergency press briefing on December 1.To protect the fairness of the voting process ahead of the 2024 General Election, the Electoral Commission decided to recall and reprint ballot papers.This year, 328 special voting centers have been set up nationwide to serve 131,478 individuals on the special voting list.

These include security personnel, journalists, and election officials who vote early to enable them to work on election day.On December 4, Dr. Bossman Asare, a Deputy Chairperson of the EC, expressed confidence in the Commission’s readiness for the special voting exercise in the Western and Eastern Regions. He assured the public that all arrangements had been made for a seamless and transparent process in these areas.

“The Electoral Commission is very much ready for the special voting tomorrow [Thursday]. All the materials that are required for the elections have been dispatched to the two regions, that is the Western Region and the Eastern Region."So we do expect that all those who are special voters in these two regions, regardless of where they are located now, will be able to make it to their special voting centres,” he said.

He added that 33 voting centers would be available in the Eastern Region and 17 in the Western Region, encouraging all registered special voters in these areas to take part in the exercise.Dr. Asare stressed that anyone who misses the chance to vote on Thursday will not be allowed to do so on Saturday, December 7.
