2 mins readAmong the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) aspirants contending for parliamentary candidature in the Volta Region, six women are among the total of 29 aspirants vying for positions in 13 constituencies within the region.

The women include Madam Fidelia Abla Awakoe for Ketu South, Lady Elizabeth Segbenu Agah for South Tongu, Juliana Kpedekpo for Adaklu, Millicent Nana Yaa Sokro for Ho Central, and Mrs. Anoinette Oklu and Setorwu Abla Ofori-Atta, both competing for the Kpando seat.

The National Executive Committee of the party has scheduled the vetting of aspirants for parliamentary candidates across the country from November 14 to 16, 2023.

On Tuesday, November 14, aspirants from Keta, Ketu South, Akatsi South, North Tongu, South Tongu, and Central Tongu constituencies will undergo the vetting process.

On Wednesday, November 15, aspiring candidates from Kpando, South Dayi, Agotime-Ziope, Adaklu, Ho West, and Ho Central will undergo the vetting process.

The vetting for aspirants from Afadzato South will conclude on Thursday, November 16, marking the end of the vetting process for this region.

However, Akatsi North and Ketu North have been excluded from the exercise, and the release did not provide reasons for this decision.

The supervisory responsibilities for the vetting exercise in the Volta region have been assigned to Alhaji Masawudu Osman (Chairman), Kwadwo Afari, and Kwame Peter, as stated in the release.

The party has set December 2, 2023, for the Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference, where parliamentary candidates will be elected for constituencies without current parliamentary representation.

Additionally, the National Executive Committee has rescheduled the Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament.

The new date for these primaries is January 20, 2024.

Nominations will open on December 20, 2023, and close on December 22, 2023, with only the Hohoe Constituency represented, as Mr. John-Peter Amewu holds the sole seat out of the 18 constituencies.
