The renal unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is expected to resume services to patients on November 6, 2023, unless unforeseen issues arise.Per reports this decision was reached during a meeting held on Friday, November 3, 2023. The meeting concluded unanimously that the facility should begin admitting outpatients starting today, following several months of closure.
The renal unit ceased outpatient services on May 22, 2023, prompting patients to seek dialysis treatment at alternative locations, often in private hospitals or facilities.
A partial reopening of the unit occurred on September 27, and it was accompanied by a price hike for dialysis sessions, raising concerns. However, this price increase was subsequently revoked due to public outcry, and the unit remained closed to outpatients.
In response to the situation, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, instructed the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to promptly reopen the renal unit.
