Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, made history by being the first African to perform at the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony.
He delivered a rendition of his worldwide hit track 'Calm Down' at the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony held in Paris, France. The event took place at the Theatre du Chatelet.
In a video posted on the Ballon d'Or official page on X (formerly known as Twitter), Rema's performance included two backup dancers and captivated the audience for three minutes. Some of the guests were seen nodding along or singing as the musician engaged with the top footballers in the front row, even shaking hands with them.
Rema's 'Calm Down' track had achieved widespread success and was a chart-topper, with a remix featuring American singer Selena Gomez. It was the same song he serenaded the crowd with at the prestigious event, which featured both past and present football stars.
In 2023, Rema has made appearances on various global stages, including the 2023 NBA All-Stars game.
