Addressing Parliament on Thursday, February 13, a day after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) labeled Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive, Madam Appiagyei emphasized the need for accountability and justice.
1
"The harassment of former government officials must cease immediately.
2
"This call follows recent reports that both the OSP and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) have allegedly raided the Accra residence of former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, as well as the home of former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul."
3
Madam Appiagyei further warned, “This country belongs to all of us and no administration has the right to weaponise state institutions against its political opponents.”
4
She urged a neutral inquiry into what she labeled as politically charged assaults.
5
“We demand an immediate, transparent and independent investigation into these attacks and insist that those responsible be held accountable,” she added.
6
She went on to stress the need for following the appropriate legal steps in handling such matters.
7
“Due process must be followed in all legal matters. The use of political vandals points to a dangerous descent into lawlessness, where due process is cast aside and state institutions are weaponised, harassed or silenced.
8
The minority has thus urged the government to take prompt action on these concerns.
9
“We demand from the government that all those responsible for these actions must be arrested and prosecuted immediately.”
