2 mins readFormer National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, has refuted allegations that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is utilizing state resources to advance his candidacy for the NPP flagbearer position.Ahead of the NPP Presidential Primaries slated for November 4, there have been claims the Vice President is financing his campaign with state funds.

In June this year, before his candidate, Alan Kyerematen broke away from the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa accused Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of using government resources and personnel to get delegates to accept him as a candidate. But in an interview on Peace FM's morning programme "Kokrokoo", Mr Awuku noted that such claims are false and demanded proof from the accusers."What is the proof?""I reject any assertion that we are also using State funds.

Where are we going to get it from? What happens is that Dr. Bawumia has enormous goodwill," he said.He however, explained that the Vice President is accessing individuals he is entitled to as a statesman."Let's be clear. Former President John Mahama will be campaigning for the Presidency of Ghana next year still as a former President with all the protocols accorded him still given. He is entitled to a dispatch.

He is entitled to state security protection. The fact that Dr. Bawumia is contesting to be flagbearer doesn't mean he is still not the Vice President."And in 2024, when Dr. Bawumia becomes the candidate for NPP, he and the President will be campaigning with the support of the State Security because they are all entitled to that," he established.He said this is "a standard operating procedure".
