A prison officer from Nsawam Prisons, Emmanuel Tawiah, has been arrested for trying to take a photo of his ballot paper during the Special Voting exercise on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Tawiah, who is said to be a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayensuano constituency, was caught by agents and security personnel at Coaltar.
When the police asked him to unlock his phone to delete the photo, he resisted, leading to a struggle.
He was eventually arrested and taken into custody, where he gave a caution statement. It is not yet clear if he has been released on bail.
Taking photos of a ballot paper during voting is against Ghana’s electoral laws, which aim to protect the privacy and fairness of the voting process.
