Dr. Paa Kwesi Badoo has been nominated by President John Mahama to serve as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. His appointment takes effect from April 30.
The announcement was made through an official communication from the presidency on April 30. The statement also included Dr. Badoo’s curriculum vitae.
“Authorities have been directed to initiate the necessary processes to regularise the appointment in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.”
Dr. Badoo is recognized as a seasoned medical doctor and administrator. He is expected to bring his broad experience in managing health sector institutions to KATH, one of Ghana’s leading referral and teaching hospitals.
“The president has extended his best wishes to Dr. Badoo as he assumes his new role.”
Meanwhile, the outgoing CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, was relieved of his duties on May 2, 2025. His exit followed a meeting with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
“The minister thanked him for his service and dedication to improving the hospital.”
Prof. Addai-Mensah, who took office in 2022, is credited with initiating key projects during his tenure. One of his landmark efforts was the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project,” a campaign focused on modernizing the facility.
“Under his leadership, the number of dialysis machines increased from two to more than twenty, and a new pharmaceutical block was constructed.”
