2 mins readThe Ghana Police Service has issued a directive, urging all regional commands to implement immediate protective measures for police officers and their families stationed in the Upper East Region, particularly in Bawku, Pusiga, and Sindi.

The move follows a confidential wireless message intercepted by The Independent Ghana, indicating that certain individuals — believed to be unknown operatives linked to names such as “King Doormathin” and “Nectwart Ermonnel” — may be targeting police officers, their relatives, and other personnel traveling into the area.
1
“Recent developments suggest that police officers and their families, whether indigenous or non-indigenous, have become potential targets,” the internal message stated.
2
The communication instructed that with immediate effect, all movements involving police personnel in these communities must be carried out under armoured escort.
3
"The movement of all personnel, including their families, in and around Bawku, Pusiga, and Sindi, must be strictly conducted under armoured protection. No officer should travel alone or without proper clearance,” it warned.
4
The police high command is reportedly monitoring the situation closely and has cautioned against ignoring the directive, describing the intelligence as "credible and urgent."
5
“Treat this directive with utmost seriousness and urgency. Strict compliance is non-negotiable,” the message emphasized.
6
Although the message was unclear about the identities or motives of the suspected individuals mentioned, sources say security analysts are actively investigating potential links to escalating unrest in the region.
7
In recent years, Bawku and its surroundings have experienced periodic outbreaks of violence due to ethnic tensions, making it one of the most heavily monitored areas in northern Ghana.
8
Residents have also been advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post.
9
“We’re working to ensure safety in these communities, but cooperation from the public is vital,” a senior police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told TIG Post.
10
The Ghana Police Service is expected to release an official public advisory in the coming days as the situation unfolds.
