The meeting was convened in response to the turmoil that transpired on Thursday, September 21, 2023, during the initial day of the planned three-day protest.“We would like to assure the public that the police service is dedicated to fostering a democratic environment where citizens rights are upheld while maintaining the security and stability of the nation” the press statement.

During the meeting, the police reiterated their stance, emphasising that the Police Service does not oppose individuals or groups wishing to engage in demonstrations, as they have previously demonstrated their capability to provide security for such events.

However, the specific concern of the police in this particular case revolved around the chosen venue for the intended demonstration, namely the Jubilee House, which is designated as a high-security zone.At the meeting, the leaders of the group provided assurances to the police.

They conveyed their intent to engage in discussions with their members, aiming to reach a potential compromise regarding the demonstration's venue, which they would subsequently communicate to the police.
