1 min readFormer General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has asserted that the position of running mate within the party is not open to competition. He dismissed the idea that lobbying or vying for the position would be successful, stating that the final decision rests with the National Council of the party.

“The presidential candidate has a preference but if the National Council rejects it, he has to elect a new person,” the former NPP scribe said on Accra-based Peace FM.Boadu's remarks come amidst speculation and debates over potential candidates for the position of running mate to NPP's flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Some of the prominent figures considered as contenders include Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Member of Parliament for Bekwai Joseph Osei Owusu.
