2 mins readAblekuma West Member of Parliament (MP), Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has refuted accusations made by her opponent, Roni Kwesi Nicol, claiming she breached party protocols by camping delegates at the Christian Home Centre in Dansoman during the ongoing primaries.

Despite directives from the NPP against camping and transportation of delegates to voting centers to ensure a fair election, camping of delegates has been a commonly employed strategy in party elections to influence voting.In response to the allegations, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation defended herself in an interview on Adom TV, asserting that there is no truth to the claims.

Owusu Ekuful clarified that she had only provided breakfast for the delegates and accused her opponent of making baseless allegations to undermine her."We use the terms loosely without understanding. I have only provided breakfast for them, but when people are losing, they make allegations to discredit their opponent," she stated.

The MP emphasised that her actions were a considerate gesture to address the delegates' hunger before the election, questioning whether the allegations were fueled by fear of her potential victory.The controversy highlights the tension surrounding campaign practices and adherence to party guidelines in the lead-up to the primaries.

Out of the total number of 373 aspirants, who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one incomplete form and two did not show up for vetting leaving the qualified aspirants for the primaries at 326.
