Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, received a "home detention program" sentence of "up to 120 days" following a video he posted, threatening rapper Offset, the husband of Cardi B as reported by the Los Angeles Times. Legal documents filed in the Central District of California revealed that Petty made these alleged threats "in the presence of someone with a criminal record."
The contentious videos circulated on social media. In these clips, Petty and two others can be seen issuing threats while standing on a New York street. Petty can be heard saying, "Offset, where you at?" as he threatens to harm him.
In a separate video, a companion of Petty's can be heard making ominous comments: "Plan that vacation, you should be planning your funeral." Nonetheless, Offset, who is married to rapper Cardi B, downplayed these alleged threats as he boarded a private jet, according to his Instagram story, as per the Los Angeles Times.
The ongoing feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, the respective wives of Offset and Petty, dates back to a 2018 altercation at New York Fashion Week. Petty's video surfaced a few days after Nicki Minaj hosted the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where Cardi B also performed.
Last year, Face2Face Africa reported that Petty received probation and home detention as part of his sentence after pleading guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in Los Angeles.
In 2020, Petty was arrested in California for failing to register as a sex offender upon entering the state. He pleaded guilty to the federal charge in 2021, leading to a three-year probation sentence and one year of in-home detention, along with a $55,000 fine, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In 1995, Petty was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison after pleading guilty to the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl. At the time of the incident, Petty was also 16 years old. He served four and a half years of his sentence before being released. However, the terms of his conviction require him to register as a sex offender whenever he relocates.
Following their marriage in October 2019, Petty and Nicki Minaj relocated to California.
