1 min readThe Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has made history by winning the Dome Kwabenya constituency, overturning what was once considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).The results, announced late Sunday night after a fiercely contested election, saw Akurugu secure 51,634 votes, narrowly defeating the NPP candidate, Mike Oquaye Jr., who obtained 50,477 votes.

Akurugu’s victory marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the NDC has claimed the Dome Kwabenya seat, a constituency that has long been dominated by the NPP.The NDC's success extended beyond Dome Kwabenya, with the party also capturing other historically significant seats from the NPP, including Adansi Asokwa, Sekondi, and others.
