2 mins readDr. Kwabena Duffuor, the former Minister for Finance under the late Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills' administration, has expressed his conviction that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will emerge victorious in the upcoming 2024 General Election. He made this statement while discussing the party's prospects on CitiTV.

According to Dr. Duffuor, the NDC stands as the strongest political party in Ghana's history since gaining independence. He affirmed his intention to campaign for former President John Mahama and conveyed his belief that the NDC's efforts will lead them to victory.

"We are winning because we are working. They are working and we are also working. NDC is the best government since independence," he asserted.

Dr. Duffuor highlighted the economic achievements of the NDC during its previous terms in power. He noted that during his tenure as the Minister for Finance, the party achieved substantial progress in various economic indicators. Specifically, he pointed out that the NDC's policies led to significant reductions in inflation and interest rates between 2009 and 2012.

"Inflation, interest rate under NDC’s record between the year 2009 to 2012 was the best in 40 years since independence. For 40 years, the interest rate has come down drastically," he stated.

The former Minister for Finance also emphasized his contributions to the stabilization of Ghana's currency, the cedi. He mentioned that under his leadership, Treasury Bills rates fell below 10 percent, and he noted the positive movement of the Ghanaian cedi against other currencies during his tenure. He further pointed out that the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was at 14.5 in 2011.

While lauding the achievements of past leaders, Dr. Duffuor also acknowledged the accomplishments of Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah, particularly in terms of infrastructure development.
