Ghanaian Afrobeat star King Promise has assured his fans that a win at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) would not just be a personal milestone, but a victory for all those who have supported his journey.
Speaking in an interview with digital creator Kwadwo Sheldon, the “Terminator” hitmaker made a passionate case for why he deserves to be crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ at the 2025 edition of the awards set for May 10.
“It will be an honour… and I will be more inspired knowing my people are betting on me,” King Promise said. “And I will also let them know they can count on me to take them to the world.”
He emphasized that winning the top award would not just be about adding another plaque to his shelf but using the recognition to elevate Ghanaian music globally and push boundaries for Afrobeat on the world stage.
According to him, the work he and his team have put in over the past year speaks for itself.
“The Artiste of the Year this year, we for chop am because we have done everything this year that we are supposed to do. This is non-negotiable, and it’s not disrespect to anybody else in the category,” he said.
King Promise is one of seven nominees vying for the top honour, facing competition from Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Black Sherif, King Paluta, Kweku Smoke, and Team Eternity.
Despite narrowly missing out on the award in 2024 — which went to Stonebwoy — King Promise still made a strong impression that year, picking up multiple wins including Best Afropop Song and Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year for his viral hit “Terminator.”
With momentum on his side and a loyal fanbase behind him, King Promise believes this is the year he finally brings the biggest award home — not just for himself, but for everyone who believes in his vision.
