39-year-old American actress, Michelle Trachtenberg, died of natural causes related to complications from diabetes, according to the New York City medical examiner's office.
Trachtenberg was found unconscious and unresponsive in her New York apartment in February. While a post-mortem examination wasn't conducted, toxicology tests confirmed the cause of death.
Known for her role as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, Trachtenberg's family, who follow Orthodox Jewish traditions, reportedly declined an autopsy for religious reasons.
Since no foul play was suspected, the medical examiner respected their wishes.
An unnamed source revealed that Trachtenberg had undergone a liver transplant before her death, although the details of the procedure remain unclear.
Her unexpected death left fans in shock. Trachtenberg first gained fame as a child star, debuting in Nickelodeon projects like Harriet the Spy. She also earned recognition with multiple award nominations, including a Daytime Emmy nomination for her performance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Trachtenberg went on to star in movies like EuroTrip, Ice Princess, Killing Kennedy, and Sister Cities.
Following her passing, tributes poured in from fellow actors. Blake Lively, her Gossip Girl co-star, shared a heartfelt message, saying, "Everything Trachtenberg did, she did 200%."
"She laughed the fullest at someone's joke… she cared deeply about her work, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself," Lively wrote on social media.
