Lionel Messi's debut in the MLS has been delayed due to his instrumental role in propelling Inter Miami to the quarterfinals of the League Cup.
In a thrilling match, the Argentine netted two goals during the exhilarating encounter between Inter Miami and FC Dallas in the round of 16 of the League Cup.
Following a triumphant penalty shootout in which Messi's team emerged victorious with a 5-3 score, they have advanced to the quarterfinals. Their next opponent will be Charlotte FC, the very team they were originally set to face in their upcoming MLS match.
Considering their forthcoming clash in the League Cup's quarterfinals, the scheduled MLS fixture between the two teams, slated for August 20, has now been officially postponed. The new date for this match will be communicated at a later point in time.
In a statement, Inter Miami wrote: "Our regular season MLS match on August 20th against Charlotte FC has been postponed to a later date to be announced due to progression within the League Cup.
"Tickets originally purchased for the Aug. 20 MLS match will be honoured for the new date on which the game will be played."
The World Cup-winning Argentina captain has already scored seven goals in four appearances for his new club and is now their all-time joint-fourth highest goalscorer.
