Matheus Cunha is expected to leave Wolves at the end of the season, despite signing a new contract with the club in February. The deal was agreed with the understanding that he would be allowed to move during the summer transfer window.
Wolves confirmed their Premier League safety with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
After the match, head coach Ruben Amorim was seen having a long conversation with Cunha and even mentioned the Brazilian in his pre-match press conference.
Since arriving in England from Atlético Madrid—initially on loan in January 2023—Cunha has been in impressive form, scoring 32 league goals, 16 of them this season alone.
Sources have told ESPN that Manchester United are interested in signing Cunha, largely because of his effectiveness in the 3-4-3 formation used by United’s coach Vitor Pereira—the same system favored by Amorim.
Cunha is being considered for one of the two No.10 roles behind the main striker.
Meanwhile, United are also looking to sign a new centre-forward, with Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen among the top targets.
