A manhunt is underway for 38-year-old Atta, who is accused of brutally murdering his wife in Wassa Wiredukrom.

According to reports, Atta and his now-deceased wife, Ama Gifty, resided in Wassa Wiredukrom with their two children in the Western Region's Wassa Mporho District.

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, the couple had an argument, which resulted in Gifty leaving the house and spending the night at a friend's place.

The following morning, Monday, June 13, 2023, Gifty is said to have returned home from her friend's residence to prepare for a trip to the market in Wassa Wuredokrom to sell her goods. Upon her arrival, she found that the children had already left for school.

When Gifty was packing her merchandise, Atta, who usually wakes up early to work on the farm, was seated on the bed in their room. Atta allegedly locked the door, launched a violent attack on Gifty with a machete, and fatally butchered her.

By the time community members arrived at the scene upon hearing the screams, Atta had already fled the scene.

The police command in the Wassa Mporho District is currently engaged in an intensive manhunt for the suspect, Atta.
