A 80-year-old woman has been shot dead by her son while trying to calm him down during a fight with his wife.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Guabulga in the North East Region's West Mamprusi Municipality.

The woman, identified as Wuni Tuunaaba, was buried according to Islamic rites.

The son, Wuni Haruna, has been arrested by the police.

What happened?

The Assembly member of the Guabulga Electoral Area, Bugri Gabriel, confirmed the incident to Graphic Online.

He said there was a misunderstanding between Haruna and his wife around 7 pm on Thursday.

Haruna's mother intervened to restore peace.

Haruna then went to his room and came back with a gun and shot his mother dead.

"I got a distress call from a family member that someone had shot the mother dead. The suspect said he intended to give a warning shot but unfortunately, the bullet hit the mother," the assembly member said.

He said the suspect was picked up by the police to assist with investigation.
