Kumawood actor Agya Koo has voiced his surprise at the backlash he received from government sympathisers after calling for the government to fix a road in the Ashanti Region.
The actor, who is known for his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), came under fire on social media for speaking out during the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Critics pointed out his silence during the tenure of the previous government.
However, Agya Koo has hit back, stressing that the leader of the country, irrespective of their political party, is responsible for the welfare of all Ghanaians. In a post on his X account on April 1, 2025, the actor expressed his surprise at the response from government supporters, stating that President John Dramani Mahama, while from the NDC, is the leader of all Ghanaians.
“It’s indeed surprising that some people don’t want us to criticise the government just because the president is from their party. Don’t forget that he is the leader of Ghana, not just the NDC party,” Agya Koo remarked.
The actor further noted that Ghanaians now have high expectations of the NDC government, partly because of the perceived underperformance of the previous administration under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia.
“It’s interesting to note that some Ghanaians have high expectations from the NDC because they think Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia didn’t perform well,” he added.
Agya Koo’s comments underscore his belief that Mahama’s leadership should extend beyond party lines and that all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliation, should hold the government accountable.
