This backlash follows Mahama’s comments during the NDC’s manifesto unveiling event held in Winneba on August 24, 2024.

In his address, Mahama cited insights from investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni's latest book, The President Ghana Never Got, to target President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
2
During the event, Mahama took a swipe at President Akufo-Addo, mockingly labeling him as “The President Ghana Never Got.”
3
He accused the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration of poor governance, stating that their tenure has made life unbearable for Ghanaians.

"Most Ghanaians will agree that Nana Akufo-Addo is indeed the President Ghana never got. Indeed, I dare say, his much-touted economic whiz kid, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is also the economic messiah Ghana never got," Mahama stated during his address.
6
However, Koku Anyidoho has voiced his dissatisfaction with Mahama's remarks. He argues that Mahama’s allusion to the book might inadvertently suggest that the former president had some involvement in its production, stirring unnecessary speculation.
7
"When you refuse to exercise deep discretion, and use the title of a recently launched book this way, would people not be allowed to speculate that you had a hand in the manufacturing of the book? I wrote speeches for Candidate/Prez Mills so I know what I’m talking about. SMH,” Anyidoho questioned in a social media post on the same day.
8
He added, “Irony: he has decided to be the promoter of the book titled ‘The President Ghana Never Got’ while his brother is threatening to go to court over the same book.
9
The spirit of confusion is certainly hovering over a certain family,” he said in a social media post on August 24, 2024.
