Ken Ashigbey bows out as CEO of Chamber of Telecommunications

Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, has parted ways with the advocacy institution.

GCT, in a joint statement with the Digital Chamber of  Ghana, announced the departure of the Engineer who stepped down at the end of May 2025 after nearly eight years of distinguished service.

“The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Digital Chamber of Ghana announce that Ing. Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from his role at the end of May 2025 after nearly eight years of exemplary leadership. We are deeply grateful for his service,” the statement read.

The two Chambers expressed their gratitude to Dr. Ashigbey’s leadership, commending him for “his passion, vision, and relentless pursuit of excellence have not only elevated the telecommunications and digital financial industries but also significantly contributed to Ghana's broader national economy, inspiring us all”.

DCG and GCT continued to laud the outgoing CEO for his impact and contribution towards the sector since under his close to a decade of leadership, highlighting that “his tenure was marked by innovation, collaborative stakeholder engagement, and advocacy that helped shape Ghana’s digital landscape”

As Dr Ashigbey steps down, all official correspondence regarding the CEO position should be directed to the Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications. Details concerning the appointment of a new Chief Executive will be communicated in due course.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to build on the strong foundation Dr. Ashigbey has laid,” the Chambers assured. “We will continue to deepen our collaboration, push for innovation, and advocate for policies that drive inclusive growth across Ghana.”

Dr. Ashigbey’s next steps have not yet been publicly disclosed, but the Chambers wished him continued success and fulfilment in his future endeavours.

Profile of Dr Ashigbey

Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the outgoing CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT), is a trained engineer from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He has an extensive background in media and telecommunications, having worked in the media industry for over 15 years before transitioning to telecom leadership.

Before joining GCT in 2017, he served as the Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, where he played a key role in media advocacy and industry reforms. He is also a co-chairperson of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, using his platform to push for environmental protection and responsible mining practices.

Dr. Ashigbey stepped down from his role at the end of May 2025, after eight years of leading the Chamber. His tenure was marked by strong industry advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, and digital transformation efforts.
