2 mins readThe Ghana Chamber of Mines has ushered in a new era of leadership with the appointment of Ing. Dr Kenneth Ashigbey as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) by President John Dramani Mahama, effective June 1, 2025.

Alongside him, Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah has been introduced as the chamber’s inaugural Chief Operating Officer (COO).

This dual leadership, the Chamber says, reflects its strengthened focus on innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable industry development.

Dr Ashigbey, who recently stepped down as CEO of the Ghana Telecoms Chamber, brings a wealth of cross-sector expertise in media, infrastructure, technology, and engineering.

In his new role, he is expected to lead the chamber’s strategic direction, enhance collaboration among stakeholders, and drive policy advocacy aimed at improving the mining sector’s sustainability and competitiveness.

For Mr Nantogmah, the new COO role presents an opportunity to deepen the Chamber’s internal efficiency. His mandate includes overseeing daily operations and implementing key strategic initiatives. With a strong background in mining policy and corporate affairs, he is well-positioned to support the Chamber's evolving agenda.

President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr Michael Edem Akafia, Esq., expressed confidence in the appointments, describing them as timely and visionary.

Profile of Dr Ashigbey

Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, a former CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT), is a trained engineer from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He has an extensive background in media and telecommunications, having worked in the media industry for over 15 years before transitioning to telecom leadership.

Before joining GCT in 2017, he served as the Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, where he played a key role in media advocacy and industry reforms.

He is also a co-chairperson of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, using his platform to push for environmental protection and responsible mining practices.

Dr. Ashigbey stepped down from his role at the end of May 2025, after eight years of leading the Chamber.

His tenure was marked by strong industry advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, and digital transformation efforts.
