The Staff Union of the National Service Authority (NSA), known as NASASU, has spoken out against what it sees as efforts by political party supporters to take control of how the Authority is run.
In a statement released on April 11, 2025, and signed by NASASU Chairman Ayirebi Adubofour, the Union raised concerns about growing political involvement in the Authority’s work—especially when it comes to hiring and transferring staff.
They warned that such interference goes against democratic values, weakens public confidence, and damages the credibility of state institutions.
“We are strongly against the way political party foot soldiers are trying to control the National Service Authority,” the statement said. “It’s bad for democracy, it causes people to lose trust, and it harms the Authority’s reputation.”

The Union emphasized that staff recruitment and transfers are supposed to follow the rules outlined in the National Service Authority Act 2024, the Public Services Commission Act 1994, and Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
NASASU also urged young people in the Western Region, where there are reports of tension, to stay calm and let the Authority’s Management do its job by following the law. They called on the Authority’s leaders to stick to the rules and protect the organization’s reputation.
They further appealed to the government to keep politics out of public institutions like the NSA and asked political parties not to use the Authority for their own interests.
The Union ended by saying that the NSA’s work must stay neutral and professional, and all parties involved should respect its legal duties.
