Media personality Dr. Randy Abbey expressed disappointment with the media regarding Chef Smith's claim to have broken the cook-a-thon record with what later turned out to be a fake certificate.
Chef Smith declared on July 2, 2024, that he had set a new record with a cooking marathon lasting 802 hours and 25 minutes.
Initially presenting a certificate purportedly from Guinness World Records during a press conference, investigations later revealed it to be fraudulent.
Dr. Abbey, host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, criticized the media for not verifying Chef Smith's claims before extensive coverage, highlighting potential damage to Ghana's reputation.
He described the incident as a "July fool," questioning how Chef Smith could deceive the nation without consequences.
Dr. Abbey emphasized the importance of fact-checking in today's era of instant verification, lamenting incidents similar to those involving figures like Dr. UN in the past.
