The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has advised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, to inform him if his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, makes any mistakes so that he can correct him.
He emphasized that Dr. Opoku Prempeh should follow his boss's instructions at all times and support him with humility to ensure that Dr. Bawumia does not regret his choice.
“I have watched Opoku Prempeh grow,” the Asantehene said, he added, “Don’t let Bawumia regret choosing you, follow him with humility.”
“Whatever mistake comes let me know so I correct him,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his confidence in the capabilities of the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket, noting his personal experience working with both individuals. He believes they will meet the expectations of Ghanaians if given the mandate in the December 7 elections.
“I have trust and confidence in the two of them to do the work. I have worked with the two and I know that they can do. I know that on the 7th of December when Ghanaians have given them the mandate they will work to meet the expectations of Ghana,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“I express my gratitude to the National Council, the rank-and-file of our party and our esteemed President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for their unwavering support and faith in me,” he said in a statement immediately after the National Council of the NPP unanimously endorsed him as the running mate on Thursday, July 3.
The NPP's National Council unanimously endorsed Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate during an emergency meeting in Accra on July 4. Following the endorsement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh pledged to support Dr. Bawumia in leading a successful 2024 campaign and called for collective effort from all NPP members to transform Ghana into a prosperous nation. He expressed his gratitude for the support and faith placed in him by the party and President Akufo-Addo.
