Inaki Williams' incredible streak of 251 straight LaLiga appearances came to an end when he was forced to miss Athletic Bilbao's match against Celta Vigo on Sunday due to injury.
Williams, a Ghanaian international, had not missed a league game since the 2015–16 campaign before his exclusion was made official by the team.
Due to the 28-year-unidentified old's physical issue, head coach Ernesto Valverde was forced to manage without the team's linchpin.
When Williams participated in the victory over Alaves in October 2021, he broke the previous record of 202 straight games held by former Real Sociedad mainstay Jon Andoni Larranaga.
Williams made his first appearance as a substitute in a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on April 20, 2016, which marked the start of his protracted ever-present stint.
Williams participated in 251 games, taking 456 shots and creating 207 opportunities for 50 goals and 31 assists.
Athletic won 89 of them, lost 84, and tied 78 of them.
Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak recorded the second-most appearances in LaLiga since Williams' streak of games started, appearing in 240 games until Sunday.
Williams started 212 matches and appeared as a substitute 39 times across his marathon stint for Athletic.
