The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully defended the Ejisu parliamentary seat, securing victory for its candidate, Kwabena Boateng.
Following Tuesday's by-election, Kwabena Boateng garnered 27,782 votes, constituting 55.79% of the total votes cast. His closest rival, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for the area who contested as an independent candidate, obtained 21,536 votes, representing 43.24% of the total votes.
The overall voter turnout stood at 49.1%.
The by-election was necessitated by the demise of the Member of Parliament for the constituency and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024.
In his victory speech following the Ejisu by-election, Mr. Boateng reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity within the constituency. He also pledged to ensure that Ejisu receives its equitable share of development.“Development comes from the government. It is the government that provides the resources for development and it is that same government presenting me; I came on the ticket of the government. Whatever development the state will share, my job is to make sure I lobby for the people of Ejisu,” he stated.
