Comedian and actor Michael Blackson, who is Ghanaian-American, has revealed that he is drawn to women who can cook.
In a recent interview, Mr. Blackson announced in a playful yet somewhat serious way, that any prospective life partner must be able to cook Ghana Jollof.
Speaking with Doreen Avio during his school's first-anniversary festivities in Agona Nsaba, Central Region, Michael Blackson said a genuine Ghana Jollof is an essential requirement to win him over.
“Jollof test, you have to cook jollof and I have to taste it and it has to be great. I hang out with a lot of Nigerians, Sierra Leoneans, and even Chinese with fried rice. If my wife cannot represent my country with the perfect Ghana jollof, I can’t marry you,” Michael Blackson stated.
Blackson said he came very close to marrying his housekeeper because she made one of the best Jollof dishes, but it's unclear if this culinary requirement is a must in his quest for love.
“I’m so close to marrying my housekeeper. She cooked some jollof the other day. It is part of the best jollof I have had in a very long time."
A favourite cuisine of many Africans, jollof rice is a one-pot meal made with rice, tomatoes, onions, and a variety of spices.
In the 2010s, a friendly rivalry known as the "Jollof wars" arose between West African nations, particularly Nigeria and Ghana, over whose version is superior due to regional variances.
Till date, a winner has still not been declared as both countries are not ready to give up the 'fight.'
