Ghanaian actress Gifty Arthur, popularly known as Gyimidi, has opened up about a difficult period in her life that kept her away from the movie industry at the peak of her rising career.
In an emotional interview with blogger Zionfelix on May 5, 2025, the actress revealed that her sudden absence from the spotlight was due to a serious health condition that left her in pain and unable to work for nearly six months.
“The reason why people didn’t hear from me was because I was battling a sickness for almost six months,” she said. “Some people could ask me why I wasn’t acting anymore. I changed drastically. I was having a spine issue so I couldn’t sit for more than 30 minutes.”
Gyimidi’s revelation sheds light on the physical and emotional toll she endured during her recovery. Her condition made it nearly impossible to perform everyday tasks, let alone maintain an acting career that often requires long hours on set.
Despite the setback, the actress expressed gratitude for regaining her health and confirmed that she is now fully active in the industry. “But by His grace, I am fine now and fully active in the movie industry,” she shared with relief.
Beyond her health challenges, Gyimidi also recounted the heartbreak of losing her mother, a woman she described as her spiritual backbone. She revealed that her mother died suddenly on October 16, shortly after celebrating her birthday.
“She wasn’t sick. I had spoken to her that evening and she told me she wasn’t feeling well. I asked my brothers to take her to the hospital. I called later that evening only to find out she was dead,” Gyimidi recalled.
The loss left a deep emotional scar, especially during a period when she needed her mother’s prayers and support the most. “My mother was the one person who normally prayed for me every March, but this March I didn’t receive a call from anyone. My mother’s death has really affected me. I am who I am because of her. Her advice has happened to me a lot,” she added.
Now back on her feet, Gyimidi says she is ready to pick up where she left off and continue building her career in film.
