0
Speaking on Okay FM he argued that it would be a politically unwise decision for Dr. Bawumia to overlook a candidate from the Ashanti Region.
1
According to him, considering the prevailing dynamics within the NPP and the current political landscape, it is strategically prudent for Dr. Bawumia's running mate to hail from the Ashanti Region.
2
"It will be politically unwise for him to look beyond the Ashanti Region...For now, when you look at the dynamics in the NPP and how things are going, it is only strategic that his choice comes from the Ashanti Region," he cautioned.
3
Therefore, to him, should the Vice President, who is the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, appoint Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; they together will give the opposition National Democratic Congress and their presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, a 'showdown' 2024.
4
"I think NAPO stands tall for strategic reasons...If NAPO is to partner Dr. Bawumia, they will give the NDC a good run for their money," he stated.
5
He emphasized that such a choice would align with the party's interests.
6
Mr Atik stressed the significance of NAPO as a strategic partner, underscoring that their combined efforts would greatly enhance the NPP's prospects.
7
Despite the existence of other potential candidates, such as Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Education Minister, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff, Joseph Osei-Owusu, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and others, Atik firmly believed that none of these contenders could match the potential synergy that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh would bring to Dr. Bawumia's bid to maintain the NPP's grip on power.
