Actor Jamie Foxx, 55, has issued an apology for a deleted Instagram post that garnered accusations of antisemitism.
The post in question stated, "They killed this dude name Jesus… what do you think they'll do to you???! #fakefriends #fakelove".
Several social media users interpreted Foxx's words as echoing an antisemitic notion that Jewish individuals collectively bear responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, a belief that was officially refuted by the Roman Catholic Church in 1965.
Foxx addressed the criticism in a subsequent Instagram post on Saturday, expressing remorse: "I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words have caused offense and I'm sorry. That was never my intent."
The Ray star further clarified his intention: "To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend and that's what I meant with 'they,' not anything more."
Notably, Jennifer Aniston faced backlash for appearing to "like" Foxx's initial post prior to its removal.
The Friends actor responded with a statement on her Instagram, asserting her disapproval of any form of antisemitism.
