In a tragic incident, two bulldogs attacked and killed an eight-year-old boy while he was attempting to feed them at his family's residence in the Abrepo-Broni suburb of Kumasi.
According to an anonymous eyewitness who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the mutilated body of the boy was released for burial with the consent of the Police, who are continuing their investigation into the incident.
The witness explained that the family had brought the two bulldogs as a security measure due to past robbery incidents.
They had lived with the dogs for five years without any previous aggression. The deceased had developed a close bond with the animals as he was responsible for feeding them.
On the day of the incident, the boy's parents were away, and he was with his siblings and grandmother at home. The grandmother heard the boy's cry for help shortly after he went to feed the dogs.
She rushed to his rescue but was also attacked, suffering multiple bites on her arm, under her breast, ribs, and thigh. She was also stripped naked by the dogs.
The boy's elder brother attempted to rescue him but was also bitten on the arm. In pain, he went outside and called for assistance, but neighbors were unable to approach the scene due to the aggressive nature of the dogs. The Police were subsequently called in.
The Police had to shoot and kill one of the dogs while standing on the fence wall of the house.
They later found and shot the second dog. The Police quickly transported the deceased, his injured brother, and grandmother to a hospital, but the boy was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased's body was initially deposited at the hospital's mortuary and has since been released for burial.
The grandmother and elder brother were treated and discharged from the hospital.
