The Supreme Court has postponed to May 6, 2025, the hearing of an injunction application seeking to halt a process that could result in the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.
This follows a legal challenge filed by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Tafo, who argues that President John Dramani Mahama breached constitutional procedures by forwarding three separate petitions to the Council of State without prior notification to the Chief Justice—a move the MP contends undermines due process.
The injunction application, filed by Assafuah’s legal team, is aimed at suspending the ongoing removal proceedings until the substantive case is determined.
The adjournment was announced during a brief session at the Supreme Court, which attracted several key legal personalities, including Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame.
