At the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Akandoh reminded appointees that their roles are far from ceremonial. He described the appointments as “a solemn call to service,” underscoring the need for integrity, discipline, and results-oriented leadership.
2
To ensure accountability, the Minister revealed that all board members will enter into performance contracts with specific key performance indicators and will be required to present regular progress reports to his office. “We require more than good intentions, measurable outcomes and a relentless focus on results,” he emphasized.
3
As part of a directive to improve hospital operations, Hon. Akandoh instructed all health facilities to establish two separate accounts—one to handle infrastructure maintenance and the other for servicing critical medical equipment.
4
“Maintenance is not an optional extra but a foundational obligation,” he declared.
5
In response to the growing opioid crisis in the country, the Minister urged the FDA to scale up its regulatory and enforcement functions. “We cannot and will not allow this crisis to spiral further,” he warned.
6
Turning his attention to the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Hon. Akandoh referenced the Mahama Cares Initiative, which seeks to eliminate financial obstacles to care for non-communicable diseases.
7
He tasked the College with intensifying specialist training in vital areas such as cancer care, dialysis, and organ transplantation, aiming for equitable access to advanced healthcare services across the country.
8
“These are responsibilities to be honored, not privileges to enjoy,” the Minister concluded, charging all newly inaugurated board members to uphold the public trust with diligence and professionalism.
