A violent robbery attack on Tuesday night, April 15, left a miner critically injured after suspected armed men targeted a group of miners on the Kotokuom road, near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident happened around 9:00 p.m. when the miners were ambushed.
The armed assailants, suspected to be operating in the area, took away cash and mobile phones from their victims.
One of the miners, 26-year-old Michael Larry, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was first taken to Nkawie Community Hospital but had to be referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi due to the seriousness of his condition.
Confirming the attack in an interview with Citi News, Michael’s brother, Stanley Obeng Larry, shared his concerns about the increasing wave of criminal activity in the area.
As a result of the incident, residents are urging the police to step up their presence along the Kotokuom–Nyinahin route to deter further armed attacks, especially those targeting miners and travelers.
