The Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) has organized a special night tour to show off Accra’s exciting nightlife and rich culture.
Held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the tour gave participants a unique chance to see the capital city after dark — from its history and creative spots to the buzzing streets and famous landmarks.
During the tour, guides took participants through parts of old Accra, explaining how some areas were once under British and Dutch rule. They pointed out how many of the buildings still show signs of that colonial history.
“The old Accra consists of two main parts: British Accra and Dutch Accra,” a guide explained. “Currently, by geographical location, we are in Dutch Accra, driving toward British Accra. You can tell from the buildings around here that many are very old, most are over 400 to 500 years old.”
The tour also included a stop at Accra’s first post office, which was built when the capital was moved from Cape Coast. Visitors also passed by major landmarks like Independence Square, the Black Star Square, the Independence Arch, and Nationalism Park.
The event was part of GTDC’s efforts to promote tourism by showing that Accra doesn’t sleep when the sun goes down — it comes alive in a different way.
