Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma West Constituency are confident about holding onto their seat in the forthcoming general elections.
Although recent polls from Global Info Analytics predict a 56 percent victory for the NDC's Rev. Kwaku Addo compared to Ursula Owusu’s 39%, the NPP's constituency executives are convinced that their own on-the-ground assessments paint a more optimistic picture.
“Any time when we are approaching an election, people come out with a lot of findings. Last four years it happened, and they said Ursula was going to lose but she won. Today, you are here telling me another institution is here. I just want everybody here to treat it as a trash, it is falsehood and doesn’t reflect what’s on the grounds,” Philip Gyimah Youth Organizer for Ablekuma West Constituency insisted.
He also emphasized several development projects that have been carried out by the current Member of Parliament.
“Honorable Ursula Owusu has done phenomenaly well when it comes to development in Ablekuma West. Every school in the Constituency today can boast of ICT lab. She is building an Astro turf park for the youth here. Security has also been revamped,” the youth organizer stated.
On the other hand, the NDC’s constituency executives are optimistic about securing the seat for the first time.
“For the first time in the history of Ablekuma West, NDC will take the seat and I can assure that,” one of them vowed.
Francis Hayibor, the NDC Constituency Secretary, outlined several key policies they plan to implement if they win the seat.
“If by the grace of God, we win this seat, the first thing we will do is to develop the market which they have left for over 12 years. Also, we will complete the sea defense we started and they refused to complete it. Lastly, we will build more hospitals to meet the needs of the people,“ Hayibor assured.
The Ablekuma West Constituency has been a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since its establishment.
The NDC has fielded a new parliamentary candidate in every election within the constituency.

In 2012, Victoria Hamah represented the NDC and received 26,153 votes, or 41.18%, while the NPP's Ursula Owusu-Ekuful secured 36,975 votes, representing 58.22%.

In 2016, the NDC's candidate was Diana Obenewaa Twum, who earned 20,976 votes, or 34.8%. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of the NPP received 34,376 votes, or 57%.

In 2020, the NDC fielded Rev. Kwaku Addo, a minister, but he also failed to win the seat. Rev. Kwaku Addo garnered 30,733 votes, or 44.64%, compared to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful's 37,363 votes, representing 54.27%.
