The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has formally announced a rerun of the Ashanti Regional Chairman Election aimed at restoring confidence in the electoral process and reinforcing the Association’s commitment to democratic principles.
This is according to a directive by the Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC), due to grave procedural irregularities that, according to the committee, compromised the integrity and fairness of the June 30, 2025, polls.
The association indicated that the exercise will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Electoral Commission Regional Office in Kumasi under the supervision of EC officials and a GJA regional representative, with voters required to present a valid Ghana Card or passport.
As part of Voters’ Register and electoral preparations, it will be released this week on the GJA website and regional platform, with copies given to all candidates to ensure transparency before the polls.
Immediately after the close of polls, ballot counting will commence while results are expected to be declared on-site the same day.
All eligible voters in the Ashanti Region are entreated to actively participate in the election and to to maintain the Association’s commitment to honesty, cohesion, and high professional standards.
The GJA Elections Committee is urging all eligible members in the Ashanti Region to actively participate in the election and to uphold the values of integrity, unity, and professionalism that are central to the Association’s mission.

Meanwhile , on Wednesday afternoon (August 13, 2025), the executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) met with the leadership of the Military High Command at Burma Camp in Accra for two main reasons.
The first was to commiserate with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) over last Wednesday’s tragic helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers, including the Minister of Defence, as well as three other senior government officials and three senior military officers.
The GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, used the occasion to extend his condolences, and those of the association, to all the families of the victims as well as to the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong.
Mr Dwumfuor also used the opportunity to sign the book of condolence opened in honour of the departed patriots.
Secondly, the leadership of the GJA leveraged the occasion to express concern over the attacks on journalists by men and women in uniform, describing such incidents as worrying.
The GJA President stated that journalists are partners in development and should not be seen as enemies by any security service or by the general public.
For his part, the Chief of Defence Staff apologized to the association on behalf of the GAF for the attacks on journalists involving his personnel, stating that such actions were not sanctioned by the Military High Command.
