The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has criticized Ghana’s Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo accusing her of selectively administering justice. The controversy arose concerning the early court hearing of Dafeamekpor's case related to President Akufo-Addo's approval of new Ministers.
The recent approval of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill by parliament has stirred debate, awaiting President Akufo-Addo's assent. However, the president has cited Richard Dela Sky's court suit as a reason for delaying his decision on passing the bill into law.
The issue at hand is the sequence of court hearings, with Dafeakmekpor's case being heard first despite Richard Dela Sky's suit coming earlier.Sam George took to Twitter, denouncing Chief Justice Torkornoo's actions as "judicial thuggery."
According to Sam George, the Chief Justice's alleged partisan behaviour undermines justice and poses a threat to the rule of law.He emphasised the need for equitable, fair, and just dispensation of justice, calling for condemnation of such actions that could lead to a breakdown in the justice system.“There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the current Chief Justice is engaged in judicial thuggery and poses an existential threat to the dispensation of justice in an equitable, fair, and just manner.
“Such partisan behaviour at the apex of our judiciary must not be entertained and must be condemned with all the force reasonable people can muster. Judicial gangsterism is a precursor for the breakdown in the dispensation of justice and the doctrine of the rule of law.
“Common sense ought to be an ingredient in the dispensation of justice,” Sam George stated.
