GBC probes $600K paid to Media General as judgement debt

Management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has revealed that the payment of $600,000 to Media General as judgement debt following the termination of a contract with the latter is being investigated.Director General of the GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, made this known while speaking on the stations Current Affairs Programme christened “FOCUS”.

When asked about the colossal amount as judgement debt, he said ”there is a painstaking investigation into the matter”.Responding to some of the issues raised in the 2021 Auditor General`s report which cited an impending judgement debt of more than GH2,000,000 on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan, said ”when culpability is established it will be referred to the Auditor General for legal action”.

On the issue of payment of Long Service Award, Professor Amin Alhassan said the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation contested the issue in Court and won, but, ”the Corporation is sourcing funds to pay the retirees”.He, however, made it clear that Internally Generated Fund, IGF cannot be used to pay Long Service Award.
