1
Founders' Day is a national public holiday marked annually to commemorate the contributions of all the people, notably the "Big Six" who led the struggle for Ghana's independence.
2
Previously, it was celebrated on September 21 as Founder's Day, but was changed by President Akufo-Addo during his first term of office, to Founders' Day on August 4.
3
Founder's Day is also a day on which the Ghanaians take the opportunity to reflect the sacrifices of their fore-bearers who fought for Ghana's independence.
4
Ghanaians also observe Founders' Day to include activities that will encourage the people within the country and in the diaspora to accept Ghana as their homeland.
