Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has named Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o as the greatest African footballer of all time, placing him ahead of Ivorian icon Yaya Toure.
Speaking in an interview reported by GhanaSoccerNet, Ayew was asked to choose between the two football greats.
He praised Eto'o for his remarkable career, citing his exceptional goal-scoring ability, consistency, and game-changing performances that helped his teams secure major titles.
Ayew highlighted Eto'o’s key role in winning the UEFA Champions League and numerous other trophies at both club and international levels, describing him as a player who consistently delivered magical moments on the pitch.
He added that Eto'o, now president of the Cameroon Football Federation, set himself apart with his outstanding statistics and ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most.
He responded, "For me, it's Samuel Eto'o. There's a game to win, and you know Samuel will solve the problem.
He always stepped up when the stakes were highest. That's something you can't teach. It's not just about what he won; it's about how he did it. Samuel Eto'o is the greatest."
Eto'o enjoyed a remarkable career, winning the UEFA Champions League three times—twice with Barcelona and once with Inter Milan.
He also led Cameroon to two Africa Cup of Nations titles.
