Residents of the Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are demanding urgent intervention from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and the Ministry of Energy to end the ongoing power supply challenges that have plagued the area for months.
In a strongly-worded statement, the residents expressed frustration over the frequent, unannounced blackouts that have disrupted daily life and economic activities.
“The outages occur without any prior notice or communication from ECG or GRIDCo, causing significant disruptions to households, healthcare facilities, schools, and businesses,” the statement explained.
They warned that the continuous power supply issues have far-reaching implications.
The consequences are severe, hindering economic activity, endangering lives, and affecting the provision of essential services,” it added.
Some neighborhoods have reportedly been left in darkness for over four days at a stretch, with no clear resolution in sight.
“Despite multiple discussions with ECG officials, no substantial improvements have been made,” the statement noted. “Though GRIDCo has provided assurances, the residents of Weija-Gbawe continue to endure an unreliable power supply.”
The statement ended with a direct plea to authorities, emphasizing the need for a permanent fix to the power situation.
“We therefore respectfully call on ECG, GRIDCo, and the Ministry of Energy to take immediate and effective steps to resolve this issue once and for all. The people of Weija-Gbawe deserve better.”
